I don't know what we were thinking...
A while back I was at an assignment and a woman told me about this Head Start program for children of migrant farm workers. I passed it along to our education reporter and we were set to do a story. After the first visit, the school looked like any other I have photographed, and although interesting, I knew we had to dig a little deeper. The reporter and I found ourselves meeting at the office at 3 a.m. to make the drive to a farm house in Weld County by 4 a.m. The children who attend this school get an early start, as their parents go to work just as the sun breaks the horizon. The children don't get home until 4 p.m. or so, making it a long, long day for anyone, let alone infants and toddlers.
