Had a quick portrait session with Gil Vidaurri the other day. I'm not sure what the story is about, as my assignment said just a portrait of Gil or of him working on his house. Anyway, after shooting it I'm still not sure what the story with Gil is about. He was a very nic man, though. And easy to photograph as well.
Whatever the story this is what I got out of Gil. He was born in 1933 in a home just down the road from his current home -- which is also his childhood home -- on Dunmire street in Frederick. Gil has been long active in the community, including the Lions Club and the Tri-Town Ambulance service, which his wife founded. “At one time, I had four jobs,” he said. “ I worked for a box company, a farm, a gas station and an apartment complex. I guess I was trying to spread myself around too much.” Gil retired a few years ago from his business he founded in 1963, Vidaurri’s Heating.
Just last week I was telling my wife about a project I want to do when I either retire from newspapers (HA, HA) or get laid off. I won't tell you what it is, though. I will say this: People like Gil will fit the bill perfectly.
