Coincidences

In June 2006 I was assigned to photograph a woman who was raped a number of years ago. Her assailant was never caught, until a man arrested on unrelated charges was swabbed for DNA evidence to be cross referenced with DNA gathered from unsolved cases. His happened to match that of evidence recovered from the scene of Renee Dulany's brutal rape, according to investigators. She was, of course, estatic and contacted us about having her side of the story told. She wanted women to know that it is not their fault things like this happen. She wanted to educate our community about rape and the effects. As journalists we never publish the names of victims, let alone take their photos. But, it was with her consent we tell the story.I admire her strength to even tell the story to a reporter and I, let alone share it with thousands.

In 1993, Tammera Tatum was killed in Longmont as her 1-year-old daughter, Sadie, slept by her side. The case went unsolved after investigators cleared the woman's common-law husband, Jim, as a suspect. The father and daughter say they remain hopeful the mystery surrounding Tatum’s homicide will be solved, even though investigators’ renewed interest in the case seems to be focused on a man Medow long considered a friend. That friend was the suspect in Renee Dulany's rape. This is a quick portrait I did of Jim and Sadie that ran in today's paper.
It is funny how path's cross...

Thank you for your kindness. Maybe someday we'll meet and you can take pictures of that too :)
