Olde Stage Road Fire

20090107fire2

Whew, what a day of smoke, wind, flames and distraught people. On my way to work I was sent straight to a fire that was 2 acres when I left and 25 acres when I arrived. Now, the Olde Stage Road Fire is about 1000 acres. Dry fuel and high winds will do that to any fire, I guess.

After fighting my way into the area I found myself in the thickest smoke I have ever seen. I felt suffocated, I couldn't see enough to shoot, I could feel the heat from the flames that eventually jumped the highway and I lost my truck. Funny, given I was only about 20 feet from where I parked. An entire subdivision was evacuated, which I walked about a mile to get into. It's a weird feeling when you walk in and everyone is going out. I ended the day shooting the evacuees at a local high school. I'm in need of a shower, so off I go.

Josh-Nice coverage by everyone at the TC! I miss the smell of wildfire in the afternoon. I like the last image of the evacuees looking very concerned. Take care man and be safe.

I thought you you during the fire and knew you must have been there. So glad you are safe and have to say your photos are (as always) great!
